The 4K illusion
Zoom, Teams and Google Meet still cap participant video at 1080p or 720p, so a 4K webcam never transmits 4K in a meeting. A great 1080p camera beats a mediocre 4K one for calls — 4K only pays off for recording, digital zoom and crop-and-pan.
Light beats sensor
A $25–$50 key light improves your image more than upgrading the camera: a $60 webcam with proper front-facing light consistently outperforms a $300 webcam in a dim room. Buy the light first, then decide if you still need the camera.
The software tax
Auto-framing, tracking and manual image control all live in a vendor app running in the background — Logi Tune, Camera Hub, OBSBOT Center, Insta360 Link Controller — and Razer's Synapse is Windows-only, so the $400 Kiyo Pro Ultra's tuning controls simply do not exist on a Mac.
