Leviton Decora D215S
$37 under your budget
The default answer when your box has a neutral wire: 14 sources, Matter-certified, no hub, no bridge — and a 5-year warranty behind it.
Fit ledger — need → measured evidence
■ The catch — co-equal billing, always
It only turns lights on and off. There is no dimming at any price — Leviton's dimmer is the separate D26HD — and with no neutral wire in the box it will not work at all. Being Wi-Fi, every switch you add is one more client on your router.
Dealbreaker? Runner-up №1 (Tapo S505D) dims, and costs less per switch ↓
■ Every product has a catch. Verdicts that hide it are how bad buys happen.

Traps — this verdict avoids
Why the Leviton Decora D215S is right for you
It avoids every trap below — and for anyone, under $80, it is the pick because it delivers:
The pre-1985 neutral
Homes built before ~1985 often have no neutral wire at the switch box, and most Wi-Fi switches (Leviton D215S, Kasa HS200, Tapo S505D, Aqara S100) then do not work at all. Pull the switch and look for a capped bundle of white wires before you buy anything.
The hub is part of the price
Lutron Caseta needs a $60-80 Smart Hub, Zigbee and Z-Wave need their own coordinator, and Matter-over-Thread needs a border router already in the house. Only Matter-over-Wi-Fi and plain Wi-Fi switches add nothing.
Price the pair, not the switch
Multi-way is a second purchase on almost everything — Lutron a Pico, Kasa the HS210, Inovelli an Aux switch; only the Zooz ZEN77 drives an existing dumb switch. And check pack size: the Tapo S505D price is a 2-pack, every other price in this category is a single unit.
