Fit ledger — need → measured evidence

OVER 25 LBS
Rated 20-42 lbs — the classic LX (25), LX Pro (22) and Herman Miller Flo (20) all stop below this class.
ODD VESA PATTERNS
Covers up to 200x200mm — the only arm in this comparison that supports large-format spacing natively.
49-INCH SCREENS
Handles screens up to 49 inches, including Samsung Odyssey G9 and LG UltraGear ultrawides.
NO DRIFT
Constant Force spring holds a 40 lb panel where you put it, with no periodic re-tensioning.
REACH
23.6 inches of extension and 11.5 inches of height adjustment.

The catch — co-equal billing, always

Its floor is 20 lbs. This is not a general-purpose arm — a normal 27-inch monitor at 12-18 lbs sits below the rated range and will float upward however you set the tension. And a deeply curved 1000R panel needs the ~$70 HD Pivot accessory on top of the $329.

Traps — this verdict avoids

Why the Ergotron HX is right for you

It avoids every trap below — and for just me, no budget cap, it is the pick because it delivers:

Over 25 lbs Odd VESA patterns 49-inch screens No drift Reach
Trap 01

The weight window

Every arm has a minimum as well as a maximum. An arm rated 4.4-19.8 lbs will sag under a 25 lb panel and float a 3 lb one upward — no tension setting fixes an out-of-range monitor. Weigh yours before you buy.

Trap 02

VESA that isn't there

Most arms cover only 75x75mm and 100x100mm. Monitors over 32 inches often use 200x100mm or 200x200mm, and of the 13 arms compared here only the Ergotron HX supports those natively. Check your monitor's hole spacing first.

Trap 03

The desk decides

C-clamps fit desks 0.4-3.5 inches thick. Thin particle board needs a reinforcement plate or grommet mounting, and glass desks require grommet mounting outright — a clamp cannot safely grip them.
