Fit ledger — need → measured evidence

PRINTS ABS AND ASA
Enclosed chamber plus a 320°C hardened steel nozzle — carbon-fiber filaments and engineering plastics an open frame cannot touch.
VALUE PER DOLLAR
$299.99 against a $359.99 list after Elegoo's 2026-07-28 cut — roughly $100 below the Bambu Lab P1S it matches on raw specs.
REAL SPEED
500 mm/s with 20,000 mm/s² acceleration — practical quality speeds still land at 200–350 mm/s, as they do on every machine here.
WORKS OUT OF BOX
Ships fully pre-assembled with a built-in camera as standard — no kit build, no camera to bolt on later.
FULL-SIZE PARTS
256x256x256mm — the same build volume as the P1S and the A1 Combo, in a stiffer CoreXY frame.

The catch — co-equal billing, always

There is no multi-color option. The original Centauri Carbon has no native multi-material system and no upgrade path to one — no AMS, no CANVAS, nothing. If a second color ever matters, you buy a different machine, not an add-on.

Dealbreaker? Runner-up №2 is the Carbon 2 Combo — enclosed and 4-color ↓

Every product has a catch. Verdicts that hide it are how bad buys happen.

Traps — this verdict avoids

Why the Elegoo Centauri Carbon is right for you

It avoids every trap below — and for anyone, under $500, it is the pick because it delivers:

Prints ABS and ASA Value per dollar Real speed Works out of box Full-size parts
Trap 01

The Combo is the product

The same printer name sells bare or as a "Combo", and the multi-material unit (AMS lite, CANVAS, CFS) adds $100–$250. The A1 mini is $234 bare and $339 with the AMS lite. A bare-unit price never supports a multi-color claim — every price here names the exact bundle it buys.

Trap 02

Open frames can't do ABS

Open-frame printers cannot safely print ABS or ASA — those materials warp without a heated chamber and vent fumes that need containment. If ABS, ASA or nylon is on your project list, you need an enclosure, not a bigger bed.

Trap 03

Color burns filament

Every color change purges the nozzle into a waste tower: AMS, CANVAS and CFS systems throw away 5–15% of the filament in a print. Four-color printing costs more than four spools.
