"Wi-Fi 7" without the 6 GHz
Four of the six Wi-Fi 7 routers here have no 6 GHz radio at all — only the Archer BE550 and the BE9700 include one under $200. Without 6 GHz there are no 320 MHz channels, and MLO and 4K-QAM only pay off if the phone or laptop you are connecting is itself Wi-Fi 7.
Count the ports, not the badge
Advertised ratings like BE9300 are combined theoretical maximums across all bands — real-world single-device speed is typically 20-40% of the rated number. What actually caps you is the port: the ASUS RT-AX1800S is gigabit-only, and the Archer AXE75 ships in two revisions — the current V2 has a 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port with USB 2.0, while V1 units were gigabit-only with USB 3.0.
The FCC action is not a ban
On 2026-03-23 the FCC added all foreign-made consumer routers to its Covered List, which blocks NEW equipment authorizations only — every router here is already authorized and stays legal to import, sell and use. The separate Commerce Department proceeding aimed at TP-Link was proposed, not final as of 2026-07-30, and five of these eight picks are TP-Link.
