EcoSmart ECO 11

The cheapest safe path to electric tankless hot water — 13 kW on one 60A breaker, self-modulating, and enough for one bathroom in a warm climate.

EcoSmart ECO 11
EcoSmart ECO 1113 KW · 3.1 GPM

Fit ledger — need → measured evidence

UNDER $250
$238 — the cheapest heater any of our 7 sources recommends, with $12 of headroom left.
ONE BATHROOM
13 kW, ~3.1 GPM — a shower and a sink at the same time in a warm climate.
SIMPLE WIRING
A single 60A 240V breaker — no three-breaker bank, no 200A service upgrade.
SAME TECH AS THE BIG UNITS
Patented self-modulating power matching — the identical technology EcoSmart puts in its 27 kW whole-house unit.
APARTMENT OR ADU
Sized for one bathroom, an apartment, an ADU or a warm-climate small home.

The catch — co-equal billing, always

13 kW is a warm-climate number. The ~3.1 GPM rating assumes a modest temperature rise; under a 45°F winter inlet it loses a large share of that flow, and a 13 kW unit cannot run two showers in a cold climate no matter the marketing. Do not buy this as a northern whole-house heater.

Traps — this verdict avoids

Why the EcoSmart ECO 11 is right for you

It avoids every trap below — and for just me, under $250, it is the pick because it delivers:

Trap 01

Phantom GPM

Headline flow rates are quoted at a modest temperature rise. A unit rated 7.5 GPM at a 35°F rise can deliver under 4 GPM at a 70°F rise — a heater that runs four showers in Florida may not run one in Minnesota. Size by your winter inlet temperature, never by the box.

Trap 02

The panel bill the price hides

A 36 kW whole-house unit draws 150A — three 50A 240V breakers — and 27–36 kW units routinely force a 200A panel or service upgrade costing $1,000–$3,000+ on top of the heater.

Trap 03

The tax credit is gone

The federal 25C credit (30% of cost, up to $600) applied only to property placed in service on or before 2025-12-31. A 2026 install earns no federal credit — budget the full sticker and check state/utility rebates instead.
