The ohm rating is the product
The Beyerdynamic DT 770, 880 and 990 PRO each ship in 32, 80 and 250 ohm as separate products at separate prices — and the 250 ohm genuinely needs an interface or amp with real output. A DT 770 price with no ohm number attached is not a price. Everything here is the 80 ohm Gray model.
"Flat" is a claim, not a spec
Of everything compared here, only the AKG K371 has a documented close match to a research-derived target curve (RTINGS). The ATH-M50x is bass-forward, the MDR-7506 is forward in the upper mids, and Beyerdynamic's house sound carries a treble lift — they are bought for familiarity, durability and price, which is legitimate, but it is not accuracy.
The sticker is not the cost
The 300 ohm HD 600 and 470 ohm ATH-R70x sound thin and quiet from a phone or laptop jack — budget $50-$150 for a dongle or desktop amp on top. And pads change frequency response as they wear: replace them every 12-18 months (HD 600 pads are $54.95, its cable $19.95).
