Yale Assure Lock 2 Wi‑Fi
$80 under your budget
The default lock in 9 outlets' testing — ANSI/BHMA Grade 2, a keyed backup cylinder, about a year on four AA cells, and no subscription of any kind.
Fit ledger — need → measured evidence
■ The catch — co-equal billing, always
This SKU has no Apple Home Key, and Wi-Fi and Matter share one slot. Home Key needs the key-free touchscreen Assure Lock 2 Plus, not this pushbutton YRD410-WF1 — and because the Wi-Fi module and the Matter module occupy the same bay, fitting Matter-over-Thread means giving up built-in Wi-Fi. You get one radio or the other, never both.

Traps — this verdict avoids
Why the Yale Assure Lock 2 Wi-Fi is right for you
It avoids every trap below — and for anyone, under $250, it is the pick because it delivers:
Fit returns more locks than anything else
Measure before you order, not after. Most picks here fit 1-3/8 in to 1-3/4 in doors on a 2-3/8 in or 2-3/4 in backset and a 2-1/8 in bore. The Level Lock Pro needs 1-3/4 in to 2 in, so it is simply wrong for a standard 1-3/8 in door — and no lock on this card fits a mortise lock or a euro cylinder.
"Retrofit" usually is not one
Only the Yale Approach keeps your existing exterior hardware and keys. The Aqara U400 and the Level Lock Pro replace the entire deadbolt despite being routinely described as retrofits — that is a modification to the door, and your lease or HOA may forbid it.
A grade and a keyway are not implied
BHMA AAA / ANSI Grade 1 covers the Encode Plus, Arrive, Halo Select and eufy E34; the Yale Assure Lock 2 and Wyze Bolt v2 are Grade 2; Lockly, Aqara and the Yale Approach publish no grade at all. And the Schlage Sense Pro has no keyway — flat AA cells plus a missed low-battery alert leaves you outside.
