Fit ledger — need → measured evidence

MINIATURE DETAIL
14 × 19 micron XY off a 10-inch 16K panel (15,120 × 6,230 pixels) — matched only by the ~$499 HALOT-X1 and the ~$750 Sonic Mighty Revo.
PRINT SPEED
Tilt release separates layers at up to 150mm/h, though standard resin realistically runs 30–50% slower than that headline.
COLD WORKSHOP
Smart tank heating holds the resin at 30 °C, so curing stays consistent in an unheated garage or basement.
ROOM TO GROW
212 × 118 × 220 mm build volume — 20mm more Z height than the HALOT-X1 Combo at exactly the same pixel size.
LOWEST 16K PRICE
$494, flat through July while the HALOT-X1 went back to ~$499 and the M7 Pro rose to ~$540.
FIRST-PRINT SUCCESS
Automatic leveling plus an AI camera that flags empty plates and warping removes the manual calibration step that sinks first prints.

The catch — co-equal billing, always

You are buying a chemistry hobby, not an appliance. Uncured resin is a skin sensitiser and an aquatic toxin: nitrile gloves and eye protection every time, real room ventilation (the printer's carbon filter is not ventilation), every drip and paper towel UV-cured solid before binning, and used IPA hauled to hazardous-waste collection — never a drain. Budget $150–250 on top of the $494 before it prints anything usable.

Dealbreaker? Runner-up №2's carbon filter cuts the smell — not the gloves, ventilation or waste run ↓

Traps — this verdict avoids

Why the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra 16K is right for you

It avoids every trap below — and for just me, no budget cap, it is the pick because it delivers:

Miniature detail Print speed Cold workshop Room to grow Lowest 16K price
Trap 01

The printer is not the purchase

No machine here ships with the wash-and-cure station it needs — that is $80–200 on its own, and the gloves, eye protection, IPA and waste routine push the real day-one bill $150–250 past the sticker. Resin then costs $25–60 per litre (or $40–80 for engineering and high-speed grades), far more per part than FDM filament.

Trap 02

"16K" is not a resolution

XY resolution depends on screen size as much as pixel count. A 10.1-inch 16K panel resolves 14 × 19 microns; a 13.6-inch 7K panel resolves 46 × 46 microns — more than three times coarser. We rank on the micron figure, never the K number.

Trap 03

The screen is a consumable

The mono LCD is a wear part rated 2,000–3,000 hours, and a replacement runs $30–100 depending on resolution. Resin residue left on the film is the fastest way to kill one, which is why piezo or AI residue detection is a real feature and not marketing.
