The console lock
PlayStation- and Xbox-licensed wheels are separate SKUs that never cross over — a T248P won't work on Xbox, a G920 won't work on PS5. The only true tri-platform path is Fanatec's QR2 rim swap, and that base starts at $1,199. Buy for the console you actually own.
The base is not the wheel
Direct-drive listings sell a motor, not a setup. A Moza R9 base is $300 — then a rim (~$200), pedals (~$200) and the Power Booster (~$50) that full torque requires, all sold separately: $750 to actually drive. Even the $670 Logitech RS50 ships without pedals.
The mount tax
A direct-drive wheel without a rigid mount feels half as good — at 8 Nm and up a flimsy desk clamp flexes and ruins the force feedback. Add a $200+ wheel stand or a $400+ cockpit to any DD budget; desk clamps only hold up on lower-torque bases like the R5.
