JanSport Main Campus
$30 under your budget
The most bag per dollar our 13 sources name — 32 litres, a dedicated padded 15-inch compartment and a lifetime warranty, at just 1.34 lbs empty.
Fit ledger — need → measured evidence
■ The catch — co-equal billing, always
The sleeve is rated 15 inches and sits on the pack floor. A 16-inch MacBook Pro is a different claim and JanSport does not make it — and with no sternum strap or hip belt, all 32 litres hangs off your shoulders above roughly 15 lbs loaded.
Dealbreaker? Thule Chasm 26L holds a 16-inch MacBook off the floor for $142 ↓
■ Every product has a catch. Verdicts that hide it are how bad buys happen.
Don't buy this if…
- you need a messenger bag, briefcase, or rolling laptop bag — not a backpack
- you need a hiking backpack that also holds a laptop (40L+, frame-based)
- you only need a padded laptop sleeve or case, not a full backpack
Wrong product for you is still a bad buy. These are the cases where we'd send you somewhere else.

Traps — this verdict avoids
Why the JanSport Main Campus is right for you
It avoids every trap below — and for just me, under $80, it is the pick because it delivers:
The 15-inch lie
A sleeve that "fits 15-inch" is not a sleeve that fits a 16-inch MacBook Pro — those are different claims, and modern 16" machines do not go into some older 15" sleeves. Only 2 of the 12 packs here are officially rated to 17 inches.
Sleeves that touch the floor
In an unsuspended sleeve the laptop sits on the pack bottom and takes the hit every time you set the bag down. Suspended and elevated sleeves now start at $142, not $279 — ask "is the sleeve suspended?" before anything else.
Capacity is the SKU
A CPL24 is not a CPL16, an Aer City Pack Pro 2 24L Cordura ($219) is not the 24L X-Pac ($249) or ULTRA ($269), and a Peak Design Everyday 20L is not the 30L. Ordering the wrong variant is the commonest way to end up with a bag your laptop does not fit.
