The catch — co-equal billing, always

There is no telephoto lens. For $1,899.99 you get a 50MP main and a 50MP ultrawide and nothing else — all zoom is digital. The Fold 8 Ultra adds a 200MP main and a 3x optical telephoto for $200 more, though Tom's Guide's zoom test found the Fold 8's digital 3x holds up better than expected.

Dealbreaker? Runner-up №2 adds the 3x optical telephoto for $200 ↓

Traps — this verdict avoids

Why the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is right for you

It avoids every trap below — and for just me, no cap, it is the pick because it delivers:

Tablet in pocket Usable closed Carried all day Keeps working Flagship speed
Trap 01

The protector is the screen

Foldable inner displays use ultra-thin glass or plastic that scratches far more easily than Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and the factory-applied protector is part of the display stack — it must never be peeled off. Hinges are rated for 200,000-500,000 folds; Google rates the Pixel 10 Pro Fold's gearless hinge at about ten years.

Trap 02

IP48 is not IP68

Every Samsung foldable and both 2025 Motorola Razrs are IP48 — immersible to 1.5m for 30 minutes but sealed only against dust particles larger than 1mm. Only the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has full IP68 dust and water resistance. Sand and pocket grit are the hinge's real enemy.

Trap 03

The tier is the price

Storage tier and colour are separate Amazon listings and each step up costs $100-250. Foldable prices also swing by the week: the Galaxy Z Fold 7 climbed from ~$1,547 in June back to $1,999.99, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold fell from a $1,799 list to $1,100. Cross-shop by the week, not by MSRP.
