$10 under your budget

RTINGS' standing pick for best speaker under $100 — 360-degree sound for two on a blanket, IP67, and unlike the Flip 7 it floats.

UE Wonderboom 4
UE Wonderboom 48.5 W · IP67 · FLOATS

Fit ledger — need → measured evidence

SOUND FOR TWO
360-degree omnidirectional output — no sweet spot to argue over across a picnic blanket or a patio table.
POOLSIDE
IP67 and it floats — one of only three picks here confirmed to come back up, and it took 5-foot drop tests with minor scuffs.
UNDER $80
$69.99, 30% off its $99.99 list — $30 below both the Flip 7 and the Grip.
PHONE STAYS PUT
131 feet of Bluetooth range — the phone can sit on the table while you are both in the water.
WHOLE AFTERNOON
14-hour battery at moderate volume in a 420g body that hangs off a bag strap.

The catch — co-equal billing, always

It will not fill a backyard. At 8.5W it is a fraction of the Flip 7's 35W — right for two people on a blanket or one room, out of its depth against wind, an open patio, or a crowd. Buy it for portability and water, not for volume.

Traps — this verdict avoids

Why the UE Wonderboom 4 is right for you

It avoids every trap below — and for two, under $80, it is the pick because it delivers:

Trap 01

IP68 does not mean it floats

Submersible and buoyant are different specs. Only the Wonderboom 4, Tribit PocketGo and Soundcore Boom 3i are confirmed to float — the IP68 JBL Flip 7 and JBL Grip survive a dunk but go straight to the bottom of the pool.

Trap 02

Auracast will not talk to PartyBoost

JBL's Auracast (Flip 7, Grip, Clip 5, Go 4, Go 5) and the older PartyBoost (Flip 6) cannot pair with each other, and UE's PartyUp links Miniroll to Miniroll only. Buying a Flip 7 to chain with an old Flip 6 simply does not work.

Trap 03

Battery hours are half-volume hours

Every runtime here is a manufacturer rating at roughly 50% volume. Bass-boost modes and outdoor max volume cut real playback by 30-50% — a 16-hour speaker is an 8-hour speaker at the beach.
