"Six HDMI 2.1 inputs" rarely means six fast ones — on most receivers only 2-3 inputs carry the full 40Gbps; the rest run at 24Gbps, which is fine for 4K/60Hz and not enough for 4K/120Hz gaming. We check which port count is real.
Channel-count math
A 7.2-channel receiver tops out at 5.1.2 Atmos — two height speakers. Four ceiling speakers (5.1.4) need nine amplified channels, which starts around $1,799. Buying 7.2 and planning a 5.1.4 ceiling is the most common expensive mistake here.
Wattage theatre
